Sponsoring an Oneg Shabbat

What do we need to do to sponsor an Oneg Shabbat ?
    1. sign up on our calendar (instructions below)
    2. set up the Kiddush (wine, challah, snacks)
    3. clean up

What do we bring for the Kiddush ?
Challah (available at Shaw's)
Kosher Wine (small bottle, available at Shaw's)
Grape Juice (small bottle)
Finger Foods ( dessert or bakery items, crackers and cheese, fruit, vegetables, etc. enough for 15 - 20)
bottled water or lemonade or juice. Please avoid soda.
1/2 and 1/2 for coffee

How do we set up, where is everything?
All you need is in the kitchen. Etz Hayim has labeled cabinets to the left of the door and to the left of the refrigerator.
There are paper plates, plastic ware, cups and napkins. The cover for the Challah is normally in the drawer. If you can't find it a napkin will work.
You can also use serving trays etc belonging to the church, the cabinets are labeled.  If you use it, you need to wash it and put it back when done.
Do not use anything labeled Head Start.

What about the refrigerator and the stove?
We can use the refrigerator on the left. It's usually crowded but just make room. The one on the right is for Head Start. Do not use it.
There is another refrigertator downstairs in the storage room if needed.
You need to be TRAINED to use the stove. Please do not use the stove if you have not been trained. It's fire code and health rules because the stove is
used for meal prep by Head Start,

How do we make coffee ?
Plug in the coffee maker. It takes about 10 minutes to heat up. There is already water in the tank, don't pour any in yet.
Coffee filters are in the cabinet.
Put 1 into the filter basket and add 1 rounded tablespoon of coffee for each cup.
Slide the filter basket into the coffee maker.

Place the coffee pot on the warmer under the filter basket, orange handles for decaf, brown for regular,
Use the plastic pitcher and pour 10 cups of water into the top of the coffee maker. In a moment, coffee will start to drip from the filter basket, when it finishes you're done.
If you are finished making coffee unplug the machine.  Remove the filter basket and empty the used grounds into the trash, rinse and replace the filter basket.

What needs to be done for cleanup?
Any left over wine can go in the refrigerator. Any left over food either goes home with you or is thrown away.
The church recycles so please rinse cans, glass and plastic and put them in the blue recycling bin.
Please empty all the trash barrels and take the trash to the trash bin at the bottom of the driveway. Trash bags are under the handwash sink near the cabinets.
The trash bins are marked for trash and recyclables.
Please vacuum the area. The vacuum is in the front closet near the sanctuary.
Wipe down any tables that were used.
Clean the coffee pots, they can just be rinsed with hot water.
It sounds like a lot but only takes about 10 or 15 minutes.

Is it different for a Bar or Bat Mitzvah ?
Yes! In addition to the list above, you should supply the paper goods and plastic ware. You should also bring the coffee and creamer.
