YOM KIPPUR PROJECTS

If there are needy among you do not harden your heart or shut your hand toward them
.

Bring your blankets and winter coats here. From now until the end of Sukkot we will collect winter goods and the Youth Group will deliver them to a shelter. Please bring goods that are in usable shape. In New England winters your help means the difference between life and death.

You know the heart of a slave for you were slaves in the land of Egypt.

The North American Coalition for Ethopian Jewry has established compounds to support Ethiopian Jews waiting to escape to Israel. Every quarter you leave in the container, which will be out at synagogue functions until the end of Sukkot, feeds one Jew for one day.

And if you feel that you don't want to just give them a donation you can support their work. Their beautiful embroidery is featured on the web you can view their work, all based on Biblical themes, or place an order at https://www.nacoej.org/embroidery.htm .

Don't stand idly by your brother's blood.

This summer Elie Wiesel said:
Sudan has become today's world capital of human pain, suffering and agony.

In September Colin Powell declared that there is a genocide occurring in Darfur, Sudan. You can help interrupt that Genocide. Background information and suggestions for action can be found at the site of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, their section on conscience, http://www.ushmm.org/conscience/sudan/darfur/index.php or the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism: http://www.rac.org/issues/sudangen.html .

Hillel taught: Do not separate yourself from the community.

Be sure you are registered to vote. Assure that your children, if they are over 18, are registered, and the same for your friends. Let your candidate know that our tradition speaks of a world that cares for all people because they are created in God's image. We have an obligation to care for the hungry and the infirm, to find jobs for those displaced, to act in the world to stop oppression.
