TEFILAH: A PLACE OF PRAYER
Prayer at Etz Hayim is
participatory. Every voice counts as we gather for services
filled with singing of tunes old and new. Our goal is to
assure that every individual finds an atmosphere of welcome and
acceptance at our services. We sing tunes old and new
– some people only hum along. We welcome questions
and discussion. Sermons may take the form of discussion,
story, sharing or presentation. We occasionally host speakers
or other programs on Shabbat evening.
Etz Hayim Synagogue offers a full schedule of services. We
use Siddur Hadash, a liberal prayerbook that includes inspirational
readings to enhance the traditional order of prayer. Our
prayerbook also provides ample transliterations so that everyone can
join us in the singing of the service.

Innovative meditation services.
These services provide an alternative approach that allows for a more contemplative experience of
prayer. These services are held roughly once a
month. See the calendar for details.
Torah Tots services give children from 2 – 8 a special
Shabbat experience. The services are scheduled to coincide
with Junior Congregation and Bar/Bat Mitzvah services. In
this service the children share stories, dance, sing and do prayers in
their own style. They join the main service for the Torah
procession and to lead Adon Olam.
Junior Congregation services are held from 5-8 times per
year. These services are designed with students in
mind. Each class of the Hebrew School participates by leading
a prayer within the service. The students of the host class
come forward to the Aliyot tot the Torah. The students
participate in an interactive Torah discussion.
Shiva Services, following a death in the community or in the family of
one of our members, are held by request.
